The Fasig-Tipton October Digital Sale concluded on Wednesday afternoon, marking a significant success for the auction house with a combined gross of $6,729,000 from the sale of 287 horses across its two sessions. The event, which saw its first session close on Tuesday, demonstrated robust market activity and generated figures that surpassed those of the previous year.

Leif Aaron, Fasig-Tipton Director of Digital Sales, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, stating, "The October Digital Sale was a tremendous success, delivering stronger numbers than last year and vibrant market activity across all market segments. Gross sales increased 34%, the average price increased 14%, and the median increased 28% over 2025." These statistics underscore a healthy and growing appetite for thoroughbreds in the digital auction environment, reflecting an increasing comfort level among buyers and sellers with online platforms.

Ada Clare Leads the Pack: A Promising Future for a Proven Talent

The undisputed star of the Fasig-Tipton October Digital Sale was Ada Clare, a 3-year-old filly by Quality Road. Consigned by X-Men Racing, Ada Clare commanded the highest price of the auction, selling for $500,000 to DG Stables. Her appeal was multifaceted, stemming from her impressive pedigree and recent racing success. She is a half-sister to the promising American History, winner of the Grade I Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity. Furthermore, Ada Clare herself has demonstrated her racing prowess, having recently broken her maiden in an allowance race at Kentucky Downs on September 7. This combination of breeding and performance made her a highly sought-after prospect.

Donato Lanni, speaking on behalf of X-Men Racing, shared his perspective on consigning Ada Clare through the digital platform. "We raced Ada Clare, so it made sense for us to sell her, as we had direct contact with her," Lanni explained. "I’ve never sold a sales topper before! Fasig-Tipton Digital is a proven, well-developed system. It’s a transparent process and Fasig-Tipton has a strong track record, so it just felt natural to sell online with them." Lanni’s endorsement highlights the confidence sellers have in Fasig-Tipton’s digital infrastructure and its ability to achieve optimal results.

Lanni further elaborated on the advantages of the digital format, particularly for horses with proven racing ability or those in the broodmare category. "There is ample time for people to look at the horses," he said. "My phone rang, and serious buyers came to see [Ada Clare]. If you put a good video online, take a full-disclosure approach and do your part to sell the horse, it works out. Especially for racehorses and broodmares, it’s a simple way to sell that saves time and the expense of shipping to a sale." This sentiment suggests that the digital platform not only offers convenience but also fosters a more direct and efficient engagement between sellers and potential buyers, leading to informed decisions.

High-Priced Prospects and Promising Broodmare Material

The sale saw significant interest across various market segments, with several other notable transactions. Hadrian’s Wall, a 3-year-old colt by Curlin, secured the second-highest price of the sale at $300,000, purchased by NRCLUB. This made him the highest-priced colt in the auction. Hadrian’s Wall, out of the Grade II Adirondack Stakes winner Thoughtfully, was consigned by ELiTE, agent. His pedigree, coupled with his racing age, positioned him as a valuable acquisition for buyers looking for immediate racing potential.

The top broodmare prospect of the sale was Hillerito, a 4-year-old mare by Army Mule, who fetched $240,000. Sobhy Sonbol acquired Hillerito, who was offered carrying her first foal on a cover from the highly regarded sire Maxfield. Hillerito’s lineage is notable, hailing from the immediate family of Champion 2-Year-Old Filly Countess Diana.

Sonbol expressed his enthusiasm for the purchase, stating, "I bought her for a US-based client of mine, so she’ll stay in the United States. She was a very fast filly herself, and she really had this incredible athleticism that Army Mule throws. He really stamps these really athletic horses. Everything fit [for her]. If you want to supplement to your broodmare band, she was that kind of type that you’d love to have in your band. Just really, really athletic." Sonbol also commented on the sire Maxfield, noting his current success, particularly with a horse like Englishman, but emphasized that Hillerito’s appeal was primarily driven by the athletic stamp of her sire, Army Mule. He further added that the price was within expectations given the interest in the mare. "It’s a good price for a mare who has shown ability and it’s a good time [to be a seller]," he concluded.

CRC Racing made a significant acquisition in Lee’s Baby Girl, a 4-year-old daughter of Malibu Moon. Purchased for $220,000 from Carla Gaines, agent, Lee’s Baby Girl is a three-time winner and was graded stakes-placed in the GIII John C. Harris Stakes last year, accumulating $211,980 in earnings to date. Her combination of racing experience and black-type placement makes her an attractive racing and broodmare prospect.

Another notable transaction involved Beautiful Blome, a 4-year-old filly by Blofeld, who sold for $150,000 to Caroline and Greg Bentley. Consigned by Evergreen Equine, agent, Beautiful Blome was offered as a racing and broodmare prospect. She achieved stakes-winner status as a juvenile and was coming off a victory in her most recent start on September 11. With seven career wins and earnings of $329,710, she presents a compelling profile for her new owners.

The Digital Auction Landscape: A Growing Trend

The success of the Fasig-Tipton October Digital Sale is indicative of a broader trend in the thoroughbred industry. Digital auctions have become an increasingly viable and popular method for selling horses, offering a global reach and a streamlined process. This format allows for greater transparency and accessibility, enabling a wider pool of buyers to participate without the logistical challenges of attending physical auctions.

The growth in gross sales, average price, and median price observed in this year’s October Digital Sale further solidifies its position as a significant venue for thoroughbred transactions. This trend is likely to continue as technology advances and the industry adapts to new methods of commerce.

Looking Ahead: The December Digital Sale

Fasig-Tipton is already looking forward to its next digital offering. "As we look ahead to the December Digital Sale, I strongly encourage sellers to use a professional consignor," advised Aaron. "The results speak for themselves. A small commission can deliver an average sales price of 25% more. That’s a difference worth considering when it comes to maximizing your horse’s value." This advice underscores the value that experienced consignors can bring to the digital sales process, optimizing presentation and marketing to achieve the best possible outcomes for sellers.

The December Digital Sale is scheduled to take place from December 3-8, with entries closing on November 18. This upcoming event presents another opportunity for sellers to leverage the advantages of Fasig-Tipton’s digital platform and for buyers to acquire quality thoroughbreds. The continued success of these digital sales suggests a permanent shift in how the industry approaches horse auctions, offering both efficiency and expanded market access. The ability to showcase horses with detailed pedigrees, video presentations, and comprehensive veterinary records online has proven to be a powerful tool in connecting sellers with the right buyers, ultimately contributing to the vitality and growth of the thoroughbred market.
